There's nothing like the sense of freedom and adventure off-roading gives you. Petersen's 4 Wheel & Off Road magazine has been holding its Ultimate Adventure trek for more than a decade. A select group of hand-picked participants get the privilege of subjecting their rigs to some of the most challenging terrain mother nature can dish out.
Each year, a flagship vehicle is selected for the event. Over the past several years, a diverse group of vehicles have earned that distinction, from a Chevy Avalanche 2500 to a Toyota FJ Cruiser, to most recently, a 2011 Ford F-150 EcoBoost. This year, a 2012 Jeep Wrangler was chosen.
But rather than just wait for it to be delivered to the office by flatbed, Fred Williams of Petersen's 4Wheel & Off Road magazine went to its birthplace in Toledo, Ohio, to see it roll down the assembly line. Toledo has been making the Wrangler and its predecessors for more than 70 years. Williams shares that the workers at Toledo take a great deal of pride in their work, knowing that they're building an American icon.
