Dear Truck Trend,
For 2012, the Ram HD 4500/5500 has a new GVWR of 22,300 pounds, with a GCWR of 30,000 pounds. When I saw this I couldn't help but jump out of my chair. For my towing business, that's 14,800 pounds of dead weight my fleet doesn't have to carry around on a daily basis. Not only do I get the average weight needed in my towing business, I get access to enter and exit low-deck parking garages in such areas as airports and high-end hotels. I hope GM can see the positive in this idea, and downsize its 4500/5500 chassis as a one-ton while upping the GVWR.

We like the idea, too! Replacing GM's 4500/5500 chassis with a high-GVW one-ton-based truck would be like a heavy-duty 3500HD.
