The Ford Explorer has been called many things over the years, but "exhilarating" is usually not among the adjectives used to describe Ford's bread-and-butter midsize SUV. But that's exactly the term being used to describe a new version of the Explorer due to be unveiled on the official Explorer Facebook page tomorrow at 10 a.m. Pacific Time.
In the meantime, Ford has released a YouTube teaser video showing a blacked-out mesh grille and a polished exhaust tip, accompanied by a growling exhaust note that definitely suggests V-6 power of some sort. Could this finally be the long-awaited and long-rumored 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 model? Or perhaps the 3.7-liter naturally aspirated engine? We're hoping for the EcoBoost, as the 3.7 represents only a modest 15 horsepower and 25 lb-ft gain over the current 3.5, whereas the EcoBoost...umm...boosts those figures by 65 hp and 95 lb-ft respectively, differences that could be easily felt by either the proverbial butt-dyno as well as a chassis dyno. What will the mysterious "exhilarating" mystery Explorer be packing under the hood? Come back to Truck Trend tomorrow to find out!
