Colonel, you realize Ford and GM are working on transmissions together, right? So they'll both get the same transmission at the same time. And considering the next F150 is anticipating to lose 500-750 lbs, they don't need to make any changes to the engines. Speaking of the 5.0L, it isn't THAT far off the 5.3L when you factor in the fact that it doesn't have DI or MDS. So, actually I'd say they're pretty darn fuel efficient for what they've got. And GM's going to need to be more than just competitive on the fuel efficiency front when the next F150 comes out...and this truck isn't it.

Ford will have to work wonders with its mpg on its trucks, though. Right now, only its V6 Ecoboost comes close to GM's 5.3 V8 mpg. Ford's V8s aren't as fuel efficient. Plus, GM has indicated 8 speeds are coming. That will make them even more competitive.

My guess is the OP meant to refer to the 2015. You can bet that F150 will hold nothing back and will make the GM twins look like they're standing still.
