1. Allyson,

I am always delighted to read Motor Trend. However, I have never seen an article in Motor Trend about Africa. A couple of weeks ago I received a letter Fran Gralow, (fran.galow@sim.org)a family friend working as a bible translator in Angola. I was stunned to find that her RAVE 4 was beaten into disrepair by the Angola roads or what passes for roads in that contry. Her mechanic informed her "It is not strong enough for that road” (the rode to Mbambi) She is trying to get a four wheel drive truck to replace the RAVE 4. The beating the vehicle is experiencing is sure to be felt with pain by Fran as she travels to remote locations to do her work. I wonder how a Ford Rapter would perform under the same situation. Farn would not get stuck in sand or mud. However, I wonder about the comfort level for travel in truly brutal conditions. What about fuel consumption? What about servicing? 411 horsepower seems a bit of an over kill for this application. but the more traditional power train would not spook the mechanics. This is all stuff I would like to know but have no real place to find out.
