Dear Truck Trend,
I just bought a used 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. I love it, but the gas mileage stinks. The 4.7-liter engine will really boogie, but looking at today's gas prices, it's only something a king could afford! How and where can I go to see the original specs for this buggy, especially for towing, horsepower, and fuel mileage? This is not Grandma's grocery-getter. Can you help me research this vehicle's background? Thanks for your help!

Dear Reader,
When Motor Trend tested the 2000 Grand Cherokee at the end of 1999, the magazine listed its specs at 235 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque for the 4.7-liter engine. (A glance at www.intellichoice.com showed the same numbers.) Depending on how your SUV is equipped, it can tow either 2000 pounds (the standard amount) or 6500 maximum. And whether your Jeep is rear- or four-wheel drive, fuel economy, according to the EPA, is 13 mpg city/18 highway. This engine isn't known for stellar fuel economy.
We also ran a "Pre-Owned" story on this generation Grand Cherokee (1999-2004) in the May/June 2006 issue, which would give you a good idea of the ups and downs of this vehicle -- they're mostly ups.
