The average price of gas in the U.S. increased by $0.130 in just one week, according to U.S. Energy Information Administration data. Though paying $3.721 per gallon of gas is high, diesel went up $0.091 this week, to $4.051.

The smallest increase in prices this week came from the Gulf Coast and East Coast, with the cost per gallon up $0.081 and $0.081, respectively. Aside from the West Coast's gigantic jump, the next biggest increase came from the Midwest, up $0.159 to $3.623. Only the West Coast (including California) has an average price of gas per gallon above $4.00, at $4.124.

Diesel Price Average on 2/27/12: $4.051
The average cost of a gallon of diesel in the U.S. crossed the $4 barrier this week. As with the price of gas, the Gulf Coast was hit hard by increasing diesel prices, which were up $0.106. In the West Coast, prices were up $0.162, to $4.326 a gallon.
