It's a bird! It's a plane! It's... badge engineering? Indeed, this latest promo clip from Fiat attempts to add some mystery and excitement to its 2012 Freemont model -- which, as we've previously shown, is little more than a 2012 Dodge Journey.
The Freemont is a five-door crossover that bowed at the Geneva auto show, which already is somewhat undeserving of the teaser-video hype. Astute readers will realize that the Freemont, however, is just the latest in a long line of Chrysler badge-engineering jobs. Take away the new grille insert, tweaked bumper, and different taillights, and the Freemont is practically identical to the Dodge Journey crossover on sale here. Based on the video, though, you might guess this is a brand-new model designed from scratch by an army of Fiat's finest engineers.
Fiat is launching the Freemont/Journey overseas to offer a seven-seat crossover to European buyers. The Dodge brand no longer exists in Europe, which necessitated rebadging the vehicle as a Fiat. Customers will have a choice of small diesel and gasoline engines not available in the U.S., as well as the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 found in American models.
