NASCAR’s Camping World Truck Series will be at New Hampshire Motor Speedway tomorrow for the Heluva Good! 200, and once again, pack leader Ron Hornaday looks well-positioned for success. The past two Truck races held at the 1.058-mile track witnessed Hornaday lead a combined 323 of 400 laps on the way to two first-place finishes. Tomorrow, Hornaday will be shooting for his third consecutive victory in Loudon.
Using the adjective “successful” does not justify Hornaday’s 2009 season. The California native reeled off five consecutive victories at Milwaukee, Memphis, Kentucky, O’Reilly Park, and Nashville, the most continuous wins in a NASCAR series in nearly four decades. Hornaday has claimed six wins in 18 races so far, and stands a good chance of equaling or besting his season wins total with seven races remaining on the calendar. Hornaday last won seven races in 1997.
Other competitors in the hunt are Matt Crafton in second place, and Mike Skinner in third. The two racers are 197 and 213 points behind, respectively, and Skinner is coming off a two race win streak.
