"I hope you're wrong about the 6.8-liter V-10 being phased out in favor of a new 6.2-liter V-8 ("Max Payload," May/June). From what I've heard, a 7.0-liter V-8 is due to replace the V-10, but not until the 2011-2012 model year. On a side note, regarding the V-10, did you know the ambulance prep package and the F-59 stripped chassis have a V-10 package as standard equipment? The V-10 also still has a home in shipped chassis/motorhomes, so I can't see Ford shelving the V-10 just yet. All of that stuff is mere speculation, anyway. Whatever happens with the new Super Duty, though, a 400-plus-horsepower V-10 would be nice (or even a 450-horse, 7.0-liter). Power moves loads, and makes a truck more fun to drive empty."

Dear Reader,
There's been a lot of speculation about what engines will be available in the Super Duty in the next few years, especially considering new fuel-economy regulations are going into effect, which may greatly affect the trucks' powerplants. We've even heard rumors that production of the V-10 is on indefinite hold. But Ford announced earlier this year that its 2011 commercial-duty trucks will use the V-10, and according to Ford, those plans haven't changed. So, while that engine may stick around for at least a couple of years, we don't know what its future is as a choice for the Super Duty.
Ford is boasting today that its diesel-powered 2011 F-Series SuperDuty will be cleaner, more powerful, more fuel efficient, and a lot more technically advanced thanks to its all-new 6.7L Power Stroke V-8 turbodiesel engine.
UPDATE: Ford Debuts Lighter, Cleaner and More Powerful 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel
