FORD
The Ranger borrows some features from the new F-150 for 2010 and adds electronic stability control with rollover mitigation (Advance Trac with RSC) and side airbags for head and thorax protection; this helps it meet legal requirements and will likely improve some crash scores. Despite not having a redesign since the last century, the Ranger continues to sell well, trailing Toyota's Tacoma for the first quarter of 2009 yet being ahead of GM's Colorado and Canyon combined and the Dakota, Raider, and Frontier altogether. All-new last year, the F-150 also gets a few updates, including new grilles on the XLT and Lariat and chrome packages (a third of 2009 models were purchased with chrome). All the 2WD 4.6-liter three-valves will get the SFE's 15/21 EPA ratings, and added features and options include MyKey, heated rear seats, and ambient lighting.
GENERAL MOTORS
Apart from the new SRX, Equinox, Traverse, and Terrain, GM makes minor revisions to most of its truck lineup, including OnStar version 8.2. All full-size trucks receive a USB port in all audio systems. For the Tahoe/Yukon/Avalanche, a one-speed transfer case is standard on 4WD (two-speed optional). Silverado/Sierra half-tons add side-curtain and front side-impact airbags, the V-8s are all E85-capable and the smaller two get VVT, and all 5.3-equipped models come standard with a 3.08:1 axle for highway economy. The Suburban 2500's 6.0-liter gets VVT and flex-fuel capability. 4WD Hybrid models have been upped to the same 21/22 mpg EPA of the 2WD versions. Colorado/Canyon add side-curtain airbags, its optional V-8 now also has VVT, and there's an XFE model if you prefer economy. The Acadia offers 20-inch alloys, USB port for high-end radios, and XM NavTraffic on nav-equipped cars.

DODGE
Dodge has revised the Dakota's suspension with new springs at both ends and Tokico shock absorbers; the 210-hp 3.7-liter comes with a four-speed auto, the 302-horse, 4.7-liter V-8 a five-speed auto. Last year's all-new Ram 1500 gets some significant upgrades, including an integrated trailer-brake controller and higher tow ratings on Hemi-powered 140-inch wheelbase models. Max gross combined weight rating has increased by 1500 pounds so some models will be rated at more than 10,000-pounds towing using the latest SAE criteria. Other news: iPod integration, 22s optional on R/T, folding and power-extending trailer-mirror option, and electrochromic mirrors.
