Chasing tornados is nothing new, but the VORTEX2 mission is the largest and most documented tornado study ever. Thanks to Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube, those of us who don’t want to be within 100 miles of a menacing funnel of destruction can follow along with the 40-vehicle research team as they travel through the Midwest trying to get to a tornado before it fully forms.
Hummer is partaking in the mission with a specially equipped H3T. Because tornado chasing involves a lot of data collection along with poor weather conditions that could include heavy rain, flash floods, and road and shoulder washouts, vehicles involved with the chase need to be able to withstand sticky situations, whether it’s intense wind or severe hailstorms.
The chase is still young and there are no videos up yet, but be sure to follow along as the brave crew goes up against one of the nastiest natural phenomena around.
Check all the action out at Hummer Storm Chaser.
