The Tire Rack One Lap of America presented by Motor Trend is the toughest 8 days of racing featuring the fastest street-legal cars on America's most challenging racetracks, including this 2001 GMC Jimmy and .
Robert Dubler, Chris Schober, and Richard Plank's One Lap entry is a 2001 GMC Jimmy with a license plate that reads "RACECHIC." The GMC, which is similar to the image above, belongs to fellow competitor Amada Hennessy, who loaned them vehicle after the trio found themselves without a ride.
Dubler and Schober are veterans of One Lap, starting in 1993. Plank joined the team last year. The only modification to the Jimmy, save for the license plate, is a set of aftermarket wheels.
"We were short one vehicle," Dubler says, "and Amanda offered up the 'beautiful ride.' We are thankful for this -- even with the license plate.
When not at One Lap, Amanda Hennessy races. This year, it's in the Renault Clio Cup. She'll also attend the 24 Hours of Daytona and take part in an endurance race in a 1968 Chevrolet Corvette. But One Lap -- where she supports the breast cancer awareness through the 1in8 Motorsports Foundation -- is her vacation.
Hennessy will pilot a 2009 Chevrolet Colorado (the truck pictured is close to, but not her ride) in this year's event that's been outfitted with a V-8 and a sport suspension. She started in 2006 with a Chrysler PT Cruiser. The following year, she raced a Chevrolet Cavalier and placed 1st in the Economy Class. In the Retro class in 2008, she beat two identical Chevrolet HHR SSs on her way to scoring a 1st-place victory.
"This is the best event of my season," says Hennessy, "The people and the event are top notch! Where else can you get a season of racing in one week?"
What's her favorite part? "The Waffle House breakfast meets."
