All I read about are full-size pickups with huge gas V-8s or diesels--they can carry this much in the bed or they can pull this much. My 1996 GMC Sonoma has a four-cylinder and a 4.11 rearend, and I haul what others put in their big trucks. I've hauled river rocks in the bed of my truck that weighed in at a ton a load. I actually weighed it at a weigh station. I have hauled cars before, too. I pull a 20-foot trailer with it. My truck is overloaded but it gets the job done. Also, with all these high gas prices, why don't the Big Three do something about it? We need a small pickup truck again. Times have changed, but they get better mileage and also get the job done for the average man. Ninety percent of people who buy trucks only use them every once in a while for what they were intended, if at all.

Dear Reader,
As you probably know, GMC rates your truck as having a payload capacity of about 1700 pounds and a max towing capacity of 6000. You are clearly using your truck beyond its limitations, which could do damage to the truck and is very dangerous. The truck's brakes may not work properly in an emergency stop when it's carrying more than the rated amount. Also, if you are in an accident while driving an overloaded vehicle, you are more likely be found at fault. Regarding compact trucks in general, we agree that many people could get most of the work they need out of a small truck, and are waiting to see if any truckmaker is going to step up with something new in that category. It's been very quiet for a long time. If you plan on doing hauls like this in the future, please, please, please use a truck that's rated to carry more than the amount you're transporting.
(..and you don't want to be like this guy)
