The A-BAT made the news last year when the funky-looking hybrid compact pickup was reportedly going to production. Since then, Toyota’s situation has changed, and now there is confirmation that the A-BAT will be sitting on the shelf for the time being.
But why is the A-BAT being held up? It seems the Advanced Breakthrough Aero Truck embodies traits that are trendy: hybrid, small, and a truck. Sure, not everyone likes hybrids, small vehicles, or trucks (especially so if all three are merged), and while the A-BAT may be pushing it on its “pickup truck” classification, it remains to be seen whether this vehicle can actually be a hit in the future. And as with all vehicles, styling issues and concerns are wide open for discussion.
