The Specialty Equipment Market Association has found a bright spot in plummeting truck sales: pickups owners are more likely than many automotive segments to customize their vehicles.
SEMA saw a 1.8% increase of consumers surveyed in February who said they plan to customize their vehicles within the next three months. Of those who said they might upgrade their rides, 18.3% said they'd modify a truck -- up from 15.9% in January.
Instead of buying new trucks in large numbers, SEMA theorizes that consumers are trying to keep their current trucks fresher with aftermarket products. With nearly one of every four vehicles on U.S. roads today a pickup, that's potentially a lot of trucks being upgraded.
