It looks we'll soon be seeing a modern interpretation of the 1978-1979 Dodge Lil' Red Express truck. The original truck was part of Dodge Trucks's "adult toy" promotion that included a few other special edition trucks.
So what set the Lil' Red Express truck apart from the rest? According to Chrysler, it was the fastest American production vehicle in 1978. A 225-hp 5.9L V-8 mated to a 3-speed automatic transmission motivated the truck, whose most memorable feature was the twin chromed vertical exhaust stacks.
Right now, Chrysler's priorities understandably don't include a new Express truck, but that's where Norm Krause and Performance West Group enter the picture. PickupTrucks.com is reporting that a new version called Mr. Norm's Red Xpress Truck is on the way.
Interested enthusiasts can start with a Ram equipped with the 390-hp 5.7L Hemi V-8, choose a 6.1L SRT-8 Hemi V-8 crate motor, or upgrade to a 7.0L Hemi V-8 rated at approximately 600 hp.
Body graphics recalling the original, a custom leather interior, and larger wheels are all part of the package while the chromed exhaust stacks will be optional for owners who want the full use of their bed.
