The guys over at Automobile had a great idea to pit two completely different vehicles on their respective home turfs to see which one could get from Point A to Point B faster. On a friendly competition that probably tested the Hummer’s mettle more than the GTR’s, both vehicles were driven from Telluride to Lake City in Colorado, but both vehicles took completely different routes.
The GTR would take the approach most people would take, a long roundabout drive of 166 miles that would circumvent some of the highest points of the Rockies mountain range. The H3T would get a shorter route of about 50 miles, but the chances of getting stranded and not making it back to civilization are exponentially higher, plus off-road driving speeds are much slower than tarmac speeds. Sometimes the most direct route is not the fastest route, as the GTR easily dispatched of the H3T.
There are probably other locations around the world where a similar driving competition could occur, maybe even in your neck of the woods. To toss it out there, if the off-road route is viable, I’d like to see who is faster on a trip from Cedar City, Utah, to Brian Head, Utah. Where else would you like to see the GTR and H3T go at it in the same way?
