Don't tell--I snatch my son's Truck Trend and read it before he even knows it hit the mailbox. VW's proposed small truck featured in an earlier issue (July/August 2008) caught my eye. While I wouldn't say Toyota "super sized" the Tacoma, as a Tacoma owner, I was frankly disappointed when the carmaker upsized the Tacoma in 2005, and it's unlikely I'll buy into that upgrade. If VW doesn't set its sights on the likes of behemoths such as the Titan or Tundra and if the Toyota HiLux exterior implies it'll be slightly smaller than the current Tacoma--as in the day compact trucks were compact--the time is approaching when the VW brand may find itself back in my garage.

Dear Reader,
We're just as interested in VW's proposed new truck. If the company does it right--diesel engine as an option, extended cab or crew cab, affordable price--it could have a huge hit in the U.S. Volkswagen has had success with a little truck in the past, and the time could be right for another one. Sorry to spill the beans about your son's issues of Truck Trend--we doubt he'll be too upset when he finds out.
