Our nation's El Presidente-elect needs to ride in luxury and security, so GM is working on a huge, armored Cadillac limo that will keep Obama safe from, it's hoped, everything on the road.
According to a spy photographer who has seen the limo in testing, but has not released any photos, the "Cadillac One" was spotted in testing with a pair of GMC Topkick medium-duty trucks, the same platform used for the Autobot Ironhide from the Transformers movie. In fact, the tires used on the limo were the same as the ones used on the Topkicks: 19.5-in. Goodyear Regional RHS tires.
It is believed that the limo is being based on GM's line of heavy-duty 2500 trucks. Preliminary reports have noted the armored limo will look like a stretched Cadillac DTS, while likely being protected with 5-in.-thick glass, cell-phone-jamming equipment, and blast-proof ceramics. To give you an idea about the bulletproof glass, a thickness of 1.25 to 1.5 in. is enough to withstand bullets from military-grade assault rifles.
Of course, all these features are mere speculation considering that the exact specifications of the president’s ride are kept under close guard by the Secret Service and GM. These specifics are also based off what is utilized on past presidential rides.
Due to the size of this monstrosity, it probably guzzles more gas in a week than most people use in a month. When Obama is formally president, we'll finally get a good glimpse at this fortress-on-wheels. Obama may have a lot on his plate, but at least he won't have to worry about his ride.
