It always seems like life gets in the way of life sometimes. To illustrate my Yogi-ism, I'll share my minor drama that happened the weekend prior to this year's TOTY trip.
My wife and I were in the process of moving just prior to, and following the TOTY trip. So I went down to our unattached garage to bring in some plastic moving & storage bins. Nothing unusual about that. But on the walk back to the apartment, I wasn't keeping an eye on where I was stepping, and planted my left foot squarely on the edge of a concrete sidewalk and dirt about two inches lower. Needless to say, what transpired looked a lot like a Life Alert commercial. I was truly tempted to utter than hackneyed phrase, "I've fallen, and I can't get up!" In truth, I was able to hobble back up to the apartment, and fell into bed for the rest of the day. Oh well, so much for the moving I was planning to get done that weekend.
Even worse, for a day or two, I worried and wondered that my mis-step would cost me this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join the Truck Trend staff on the Truck of the Year trip. I was close to calling up Mark Williams, and calling in my regrets.
After a few hours at the walk-in clinic and some X-Rays, the doctor confirmed that there were no broken bones, and just some stretched and inflamed ligaments. For the rest of the weekend, I did the usual therapy of ice, compression, and elevation. And although it's a pet peeve of mine when I see people putting their feet on the dashboard going down the road, I capitulated to my greater therapeutic needs and propped my left foot on the dash for the drive out.
Even with this minor inconvenience, I was grateful that I was still able to go on this trip. My lunch of an In-N-Out Animal-style Double Double and Animal fries was an added bonus.
