When I read "Raiding Baja" (Truck Trend, May/June 2008), I noticed the tires on the Mitsubishi Raider had tread that almost looked like it was off of a street tire. Some factory 4x4s have much more aggressive tires than the ones pictured on page 68! You would think they would've run something closer to mud tires. Maybe Truck Trend should run an issue on all types of tires and sizes, pros, cons, OE sizing, tread aggressiveness versus reality, etc.

Dear Reader.
The difficult part about choosing the right set of tires for racing in Baja is that the truck has to tackle everything from mud and rock to sand--and a lot of it--and this truck races in the 4WD Stock category, which limits the amount of space in the fenderwells. We have to presume DXR Racing selected the best all-around tire for the varied obstacles it knew it would face. As to your suggestion, a tire buyer's guide is a terrific idea.
