Ford has reportedly sent letters to Lincoln dealership owners last month to notify them of the upcoming death of the Lincoln Mark LT pickup truck -- production is scheduled to cease at the end of this model year. Ford plans to replace the Lincoln with the luxury-oriented Ford F-150 Platinum Edition, to allow Lincoln to regain a strong foothold in the luxury segment.
Meanwhile, plans to build the Lincoln MKT, a crossover concept seen at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year, are moving forward. The top brass at Ford have not yet made a final call on the new Lincoln -- a vehicle based on Ford Flex underpinnings -- but a revised prototype is said to be ready to show to a consumer panel for marketing purposes. The Lincoln MKT is designed to compete with luxury three-row crossovers such as the BMW X5 and Infiniti FX SUV -- though likely at reduced cost.
