Having shown off its new Vision GLK preproduction concepts at its premiere event Saturday night, the automaker's Sunday conference highlighted the Smart fortwo going on sale this week, three of which indeed completed the trek our Motor City Blogman started in L.A., achieving 49 mpg in the gas versions and 59.8 in the diesel. A new "microhybrid" version was also shown, which achieves a 13 percent fuel econ bump just by shutting down the engine at a stop and when coasting below five mph.
To tantalize the paparazzi, Kim Cantrell helped plug the GLK, attesting to its prowess in real-world shopping duty, as sampled during filming of the film adaptation of her famous "Sex and the City" show. She also got the audience going with one-liners like "It's a tight little package with bulges in all the right places."
