I'm here at the Detroit auto show for one more day. Mark Williams and Allyson Harwood have already departed to head back to warm L.A., leaving me to here to enjoy the first day of snow I've seen since arriving here three days ago.
I woke up today and found that our rental HHR was covered in a light snow. This prompted me to run back to my room and grab a second hoodie (I'm from sunny California, I don't need a snow jacket. I don't own one), to brace myself for the walk from hotel lobby to car. It wasn't so bad and i was thankful we parked close by.
The online Motor Trend teams are caravaning in matching Chevy HHRs. (It was that or the last-generation Malibu.) There was no way we could fit video, camera, computer gear, and six people in two sedans. Luckily I chose to jump into the nicer one of the two wagons. Black leatherette and heated seats added just a touch of class to our H-ride.
The third and last media day is calm and easy. There are no debuts and no really major events going on we need to see. I get to take my time and enjoy all the vehicles that were unveiled without the auto-paparazzi that crowded the floors for the past two days. It's like a Britney Spears fiasco around the vehicles as manufacturers invite people onstage to see the vehicles up close. Everyone is fighting for the best shots. Today's media coverage is more like some celebrity on the D-list. We know who they are, but do we really need their photo.. eh. I wish all media days were like this.
