Truck Trend has had our long-term 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited for a couple of months now. This weekend I get the keys to it as I head out of town for a weekend in Arizona.
Things started out nicely since I picked up the jeep. As I was driving to work this morning, I was greeted with a friendly wave from the driver of another Jeep Wrangler Unlimited as I was turning onto the freeway. I peeked in my mirrors just to make sure she wasn't waving to another person. Since I was the only one around, I happily waved back to this eager driver. I thought only MINI Cooper owners did this.
I've only had the Jeep for less than 24-hours and managed to rack up about 200-miles. But that's just my average daily commute on the freeways, so driving this off-roading beast to another state will be a breeze. I was a little worried that the BFGoorich Mud0Terrain T/ALT255/75 R17 off-road rated tires would be harsh on the paved roads, I found the Jeep getting a little squirrelly on really uneven roads that were currently under construction. ( I also experienced this in my MINI Cooper on those same areas.) Needless to say, the ride was pretty easy even though you can feel every bump on road with nubby off-roading tires. I would suggest owners that don't like bumpy rides to get a second set of tires just for long distance highway driving.
For my trip to Arizona, I am excited to see the Jeep was equipped with "Electronic Speed Control". I tried activating it and fiddled with the control lever for a few minutes. Unfortunately, I wasn't unable to get it to activated. I'm now reading the owners manual for the proper method. Oh? "Push the on/off button". I did that. "To set Desire speed, Press down on the lever and release." Which I thought I did that too. OK, I'll have to give it a go once I get back on the road.
Our Jeep is also equipped with a touchscreen navigation, SIRIUS Radio, an auxiliary input adaptor, and USB connection port for an iPod. These will keep me on the right road and happy for the 600-plus mile trip.
