Motor Trend has just reported that the highly anticipated compact SUV joining the Mercedes-Benz lineup has officially been named the GLK.
We came across some test-mule photos of the GLK late July posted on CarDomain.com where they also speculated about its future name, and, as rumor has it, they were right.
The GLK is expected to make its U.S. debut early 2009 and will be marketed as a compact SUV and not as a crossover. It'll become the little brother of the larger GL-Class SUV with only two rows of seating. The GLK takes on a boxier, taller shape and will have a distinctive new front grille. The U.S. market is expected to receive a 3.5 V-6 motor, the AMG-tuned V-8 motor, and even the more fuel-efficient 3.0-liter V-6 CDI diesel engine.
Mercedes has given nodetails about pricing, but we consider it to be just under $40,000, just below the M-Class (pictured), which starts at $44,000.
