After reporting a huge drop in truck and SUV sales for the month of June, General Motors has joined the rebate games to help drive sales for July.
Pickuptruck.com is reporting that GM has increased its rebates on the light-duty Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups. Buyers now can get anywhere from $1500 to $2000 cash back or choose a lower finance rate on any Regular or Extended cab. The rebates took effect on July 10 and will run until the end of the month.
GM has got to do better than that to beat the rebates already offered by Toyota, whose lightweight Tacoma sales were up 6.3 percent from last year. Sales of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra fell around 2.0 percent. Even though the Tundra is a full-size truck, Toyota offered rebate incentives when the truck was launched, making it the number-one-sold truck on the market currently.
Is this the beginning of what's to come for GM? Will it have to step it up even further to get more Silverados and Sierras off its lots?
