General Motors recently cut the production of two of its first hybrid trucks, Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, in December by slipping out the back door without any one seeing.
Although the trucks where introduced to the public in late 2004, only about 3,000 vehicles were produced and most are still sitting in dealer lots. Hybrid consumers didn?t see a gain of 2 mpg as a break-all deal when the basic models were thousands of dollars cheaper.
New versions of the Sierra and Silverado hybrids are due to be launched at the end of 2008. These models will features GM?s new two-mode hybrid system that should deliver a 25% gain in fuel efficiency, something that lack greatly in the previous hybrids.
