The hybrid craze is the way of the future, and consumers are looking to save gas, energy, and the environment. GM pulled its two hybrid trucks off the market at the end of last year and is now focusing on its 2008 hybrid SUVs.
The 2008 Tahoe and Yukon hybrids have been redesigned from head to toe to make them lighter and more aerodynamically. The hood and tailgates, for example, are made out of aluminum. Aluminum wheels also save on weight. Both are powered GM?s new 6.0-liter aluminum, V-8. The four-speed automatic uses the new "two-mode" transmission jointly developed with DaimlerChrysler and BMW.
"GM officials would not talk about the vehicles' EPA fuel economy ratings, prices or emissions -- none of which will be final until this summer." Richard Truett reports. "But on one mile of straightaway at a steady 50 mph, the 6,000-pound Tahoe delivered 30 mpg, according to an onboard gauge."
Production of the 2008 Tahoe and Yukon hybrids will begin later this year with sales to shortly follow. Price tags starts around $50,000.
