According to Truckblog.com, Ford is coming out with a new option for the working-man's truck.
The new "Tough Box" is a work/tool storage unit that is integrated into the bed of the F-150 to reduce the bulky look of today's aftermarket boxes. It acts like an extension unit that lengthens the bed and adds two doors to the sides for easy accessibility. This is unlike the storage boxes currently used that open from the top and which force you to crawl into the bed to get what you need.
The Tough Box will be available for a 145-inch wheelbase regular cab pickup with a 5.5-foot box and a 163-inch wheelbase Super Cab models with a 5.5-foot box. Consumers will be able to order from their dealers some time at the end of March.
The box's history is interesting. The original design was for a well-known fertilizer company that had to have a truck that meet federal regulations requiring liquids and granular fertilizer be kept separated in the same space. That resulted in the Tough Box.
