Car manufactures are making used vehicles a better buy than that of a brand new vehicle. With today's "certified pre-owned" programs, or CPOs, used vehicles are put to the same tests as new ones. They must perform and pass an extensive multi-point inspection that meets the dealer's resale requirements. Once a vehicle has passed, it then is re-sold with an extended warranty. Since it comes from the dealer and passed dealer inspections, it's like buying a new car at a fraction of the price. This is making the "used" car market an open market to buyers.
I've bought two used vehicles in the past but not from a dealer. When you want a certain vehicle that is harder to find, it's a huge risk to take. A: you don't know the full history of the vehicle and, B: you take the risk of dealing with bad sellers. Luckily, both of my vehicles were hassle-free and I didn't have to deal with any shifty sellers. But I did have to get things repaired that took huge chucks of cash from my wallet.
Luckily for all the average Joe's and Jane's out there looking for a no-thrills daily driver, the dealers are making it easier for you to find what you need and get it with peace of mind.
