Cutting daily rental car sales worked equally for both General Motors and Ford Motor Company. They both posted January sales nearly 20 percent lower than last January. In the U.S., Toyota sold more cars and trucks than any other automaker but GM. DaimlerChrysler was third.
Honda and Acura sold 100,790 cars and trucks in January, a record. But when adjusted to a "daily rate" - January 2007 had one more sales day than January 2006 - its sales dropped by 1.7 percent.
